Sailing the Small Cyclades
Paros to Paros: Small Cyclades itinerary
Greece is undoubtedly one of the best sailing destinations in Europe, as it thrives with crystal clear waters, picturesque islands and breathtaking bays to moor and swim.
South of Paros and Naxos there is a group of small islands called the Small Cyclades; Amorgos, Iraklia, Schinoussa, Pano & Kato Koufonissi and Donoussa. Until recently, these islands were very isolated so they still remain unspoilt… a small heaven of peace, Greek hospitality and traditional culture. Here is our recommended itinerary...
DAY 1: Meet our sailing yacht Tahita on Paros island
Arrival at Paros. Relax by the beach during the day and in the evening our crew will give you a briefing and show you around our sailing yacht. Welcome supper at one of our favourite local taverns by the sea.
DAY 2: Set sails to unspoilt Iraklia
Today you’ll set sails towards towards the Small Cyclades. Our skipper will show you around the sailing boat and give you a brief introduction into sailing so you can get involved in trimming the sails or holding the helm…
Stop on the way at the bay of Alimia where you can swim, snorkel and enjoy a lunch break. Snorkle or dive at the WW2 plane wreck within the bay. Moor at the fishing port of Ag. Georgios. Here you’ll experience the original life of the islanders and be able to follow an ancient path towards the south side of the island to explore the largest cave in the Cyclades. The day will end with a feast at the local tavern of the village.
DAY 3: Sail towards the pirate island of Amorgos
Full day sailing today towards the pirate island of Amorgos. You’ll stop on the way at the bay of Nikouria for a swim and light lunch. In the evening walk to one of the unspoilt villages surrounding the fishing port of Aegiali. On the way you’ll admire panoramic views of the bay. Tonight you’ll sit at the traditional ‘kafenio’ and try local ‘mezes’!
DAY 4: Explore wild Amorgos and sail to Koufonisia
Start your day with exploring one of the most scenic ‘Chora’ in the Cyclades with its narrow streets, numerous chapels, windmills, castle, picturesque white washed houses. You’ll take the trail towards the famous Monastery of Hozoviotissa, built into the face of a cliff, providing breathtaking views to the sparkling deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is the pride of Amorgos!
In the afternoon, we’ll set sail for Ano Koufonisi, a tiny gem in the Cyclades, where exotic beaches, turquoise crystal clear waters and beatuful bays invite us to moor. Time to rest and enjoy a delicious meal.
DAY 5: Sail to deserted island & enjoy a barbecue on the beach
Sail towards the deserted islands of Dryma & Antikeri where you’ll spend the night on the anchor. Swim and snorkel at the turquoise blue waters of the bay. Barbecue on the small beach that is formed between these two islands. If the weather doesn’t allow us to anchor at this bay, you’ll sail to Kato Koufonisi and have supper at the tavern of the only family that lives on the island. They have their own animals, they grow their own vegetables and have their own fishing boat. The food is delicious.
DAY 6: Sail to Schoinousa & anchor at one of it's beautiful bays
Another beautiful sail to laid-back Schoinoussa. Stop on the way at a remote bay south of Naxos where you can swim, snorkel and enjoy a lunch break. You’ll spend the night on the anchor at a beautiful bay. Visit in the evening the rustic ‘Chora’ (main village) and enjoy a delicious meal at the local tavern.
DAY 7: Full day sailing back to Paros
Enjoy the day sailing towards the fishing port of Piso Livadi in Paros. You’ll stop on the way at a beautiful bay for a swim and lunch. Visit the traditional village of Marpissa and enjoy supper at the local tavern.
The above itinerary is an example of what you will experience during our sailing holiday around the Small Cyclades islands. We don’t follow the same route every week and every itinerary may slightly change due to the weather and other factors beyond our control. Remember that we cannot sail against the weather! The enjoyment and safety or our guest is our main concern.
We’re as flexible as the weather!
